Our friends at Minute Man Sportsmen’s Club have been seeking a clear interpretation of the recent Massachusetts gun laws as they pertain to non-residents shooting at their club and other similar Massachusetts facilities without possessing a non-resident license. They have now received a reliable legal opinion regarding this matter and have authorized us to share their findings.
Attorney Neil Tassel, whom the club retained for his expertise, provided an informed opinion on this issue. Mr. Tassel is actively involved in matters related to Second Amendment rights and represents both gun owners and dealers in his practice. He also serves as a referral attorney for USCCA/Delta Defense and is a member of several Massachusetts gun clubs.
According to Mr. Tassel’s assessment, non-residents may visit Massachusetts to shoot at gun clubs and ranges without obtaining a non-resident license. However, they are prohibited from bringing semi-automatic or high-capacity firearms into the state unless they have such a license. His conclusions were reviewed and concurred with by staff from GOAL.
A copy of Mr. Tassel’s findings is attached and this legal opinion should resolve the ongoing discussions regarding this topic. You are also encouraged to consult your own legal counsel if desired.
