Annual Meeting Minutes

Date: December 2, 2005

Place: Lone Pine Hunters Club, Hollis, NH

Time: 7:00pm

President Steve Szczechura called the meeting to order and he called for the reading for the minutes of all meetings since the last annual meeting.

The minutes of the annual meeting held December 12, 2004 and the state shoot meeting held July 10, 2005 were read. A motion was made by Mary Beth Lewis to accept both sets of minutes, seconded accepted by Dave Abdinoor.

The treasurer presented a detailed report of revenues and expenses for 2005. A motion was made by Dan Madden and seconded by Jim Giarrouso to accept the report as given.

OLD BUSINESS

A discussion of the 2005 state shoot ensued. Overall the shoot was a success with excellent attendance, although attendance was down approximately 12%, which is similar to other state shoots within our area.

A discussion ensued regarding the club team trophy provided by the Lone Pine Hunters Club. The discussion centered around qualifications for being on a club team. Since the trophy was provided by Lone Pine Hunters Club, they should have province over defining qualifications for inclusion on a club team. Club representatives agreed to clarify the qualifications.

NEW BUSINESS

Steve Szczechura reported on the recent meetings between the NHTA executive committee and Pelham Fish and Game Club representatives. It was the opinion of the executive committee that PF&G had not reformulated their registered trap program to the point where they could autonomously handle running the state shoot. That being said, it was the executive committees recommendation that the NHTA had the following options for the 2006 state shoot:

NHTA could possibly rent the PF&G facility and run the shoot ourselves. This would require a high level of volunteerism by NHTA members. If this option was to receive favorable consideration, negotiations would have to be held with PF&G as to financial arrangements and determination of responsibilities.

Hold the NH State Shoot at Montpelier Gun Club (MGC) in Montpelier, VT.

Hold the NH State Shoot at Minute Man Sportsman’s Club (MMSC) in Burlington, MA.

A spirited discussion ensued. It was clear that all present wanted to bring the state shoot back to NH and that all present wanted PF&G to get back to throwing registered targets but it was also clear that PF&G does not currently have the people in place to handle running the state shoot. The discussion then turned to which site outside NH would be best to host the 2006 state shoot. Both MGC and MMSC were considered qualified to host the shoot. Both facilities have automatic traps, experienced management teams and good target presentation. It came down to the fact that MMSC was larger and closer to the majority of NHTA members.

Motion was made by Fred Lewis and seconded by Leo Lessard to hold the NH State Shoot at MMSC. There being no additional discussion the vote recorded 29 in favor, 5 opposed and 1 abstention.

A motion was made by Fred Lewis and seconded by Dan Madden to hold the 2006 NH State Shoot on July 7, 8, and 9th. The motion passed U.

The idea of finding a sponsor for the preliminary handicap event at the state shoot was floated. The CT State Shoot was offered as a model. The idea was well received and supported by those present. Phil Wright indicated that hew will explore some avenues he may have regarding potential sponsors. Buddy Hackett will also look into Sig Arms as a possible sponsor.

Questions arose from members as to the status of the PF&G registered shooting program. Since there was not formal PF&G representative present status of registered shooting in 2006 is unclear at this time. There was dissatisfaction expressed over the cancellation of late summer shoots without notification.

Phil Wright discussed the status of the NSSF’s Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP). Phil reported that this program is strong throughout the country and gaining strength every year. I would be nice to have someone volunteer to be state director of youth shooting so that promotion of the SCTP could be broadened. Currently this program is only active at PF&G. Cheshire Fish and Game is working on youth development but have not formally entered the SCTP.

Discussion ensued regarding changing non-resident trophies at the state shoot to open trophies. Motion was made by Fred Lewis, seconded by Peter Tomani to change the non resident trophies to open trophies. The motion failed with 2 in favor and 33 opposed.

The 2006 State Team was announced. Pins for the top ten will be awarded at the state shoot meeting.

DELEGATES REPORT

Phil Wright reported that relocation of the Grand American Tournament to the World Shooting Complex in Sparta, IL was on schedule. Trap fields, roads, parking and camping areas are substantially completed. Events center, vendor malls and ancillary buildings are under construction. The inaugural tournament at the WSC will be on the same weekend as our state shoot. Pictures of the new WSC are posted on the ATA web site and on the WSC web site. Phil also reported on the minor changes to the requirements for the All American Team.
