10/12/06-e-mail from Roy Carroll, Jim Giarrusso and others:
I got an email earlier this evening from Frank Hoppe, and he received word from Sally Baldwin, Dick's wife, that Dick was killed in a car wreck this afternoon.
In my years of shooting I have to say that Dick was one of the more interesting shooters I've met.
We spent some time together at the Grand at Sparta, and we had dinner a couple times with him.
Too bad!
from Pete Tomaini:
I first met Dick about eighteen years ago when I requested and received his help outlining Hall of Fame guidelines for the NHTA. He kindly provided me with everything he had used in Connecticut for a similar endeavor. He also provided me access to the records for NH shoots within the ATA Hall of Fame in Vandalia that I used to start compiling a history of NH trap shooting. This summer I sent Dick the first two chapters of my-work-in-progress pertaining to Mayor Reed of Manchester and Bill Labombarde of Nashua. The reason I sent them was at the Maine State Shoot he and Sally introduced me to a AA gal named Kaylynn Hamilton out of PA. Her dad Richard, who runs the ATA HofF site as well as the PSSA (PA) site, gave Kaylynn an old ATA gold award pin that she was wearing that day as a necklace. When she showed it to me the reverse side was engraved to Mayor Eugene Reed of Manchester, NH.
That's Kaylynn (wearing the pin) between Sally and Dick in the right photo. Dick was in all my dealings with him a first rate, non-pretentous guy, despite his significant accomplishments, who would always take the time to help you with anything you needed. Dick, as a youth, shot up in the White Mountains at the Maplewood Tournament with his father Cliff. Both Dick and his father were long time Remington representatives. Note that Sally and Dick are both wearing UMC logos on their caps (Union Metallic Cartridge Co.). Please click here to see Dick's biography compiled by Richard Hamilton.

from Pete Tomaini:
I recently received, on behalf of the NHTA, the following letter from Ed Dugal's son Tim expressing his gratitude for the small honor we paid to his Dad at the 2005 state shoot. This letter convinces me more than ever that we should never miss the opportunity to pay tribute to our departed members in anyway we can. Thanks Tim!
